McDonalds pamphlets showing the Golden Temple have angered some Sikhs, who say the leaflet insults their religion
McDonald’s in Italy, however, has blamed it all on the company’s headquarters in the US.
“So far there are no reports of these menu cards being used in India. But they are using these menu card-cum-pamphlets in Italy,” Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak (SGPC) spokesperson Kulwinder Singh told today.
"Our volunteers contacted McDonald’s in Italy which said that the pamphlets were printed at the brand's US headquarters."
SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar said the company has been asked to withdraw the pamphlets immediately.
He termed the entire incident as a conspiracy to insult the Sikh religion.
Makkar told Mail Today: “We condemn the action of the McDonald's. They have hurt our religious feelings. This is a deep conspiracy against the Sikh religion.
"They should immediately withdraw the pamphlets from their restaurants with unconditional apology and an assurance that the brand will not insult the Sikh religion in future.”
The SGPC plans to take up the matter with the Italian embassy in New Delhi and may protest outside the diplomatic precinct, sources said.
