Support for Kejriwal as CM grows, Bedi lags behind in ratings

At a public meeting on Friday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal drew cheers when he announced his party’s government would be sworn in on February 15, a year after he resigned as chief minister.
The latest Hindustan Times-C fore survey shows he may not have to eat his words. The feisty leader remains the preferred choice for the chief minister’s post with 46% people backing him, followed by the BJP’s Kiran Bedi (37%) and Congress’ Ajay Maken (9%).
A previous round of the survey (conducted between January 24-27), showed 43% people were backing Kejriwal, followed by Bedi (39%) and Maken (12%). So between the two surveys, Kejriwal has gained by three percentage points. It’s a two percentage-point loss for Bedi.
If the ratings for Kejriwal are going up, there is solid ground work being the gain. He is holding twice as many public meetings as he did for the 2013 assembly elections, trying to shake off the stigma of quitting power in just 49 days.
This time he is holding about 120 public meetings across constituencies, telling the voters that he will not quit again if voted to power. During the last elections, he held only 50-odd roadshows.
The previous HT survey shows 68% respondents said they were satisfied with AAP’s 49-day government. Half of those who like AAP do so because they believe the party brought down electricity and water rates while in power, while 41% feel the party put the spotlight on clean governance.
Despite much brouhaha over AAP’s claims of being an aam aadmi sarkar, only 5% of its admirers like it for its austerity measures, and 4% do so for participatory governance.
An overwhelming 69% respondents dislike AAP because it quit government in 49 days. Despite media hype, only 9% people dislike AAP for its imitational (dharna) ways. Even fewer (6%) have objections to AAP seeking support from Congress.
Only 10% dislike AAP for vigilantism. An overwhelming 75% feel AAP brought down corruption. A little more than half of the respondents feel only AAP can provide a clean government in Delhi. BJP has confidence of only 36% of people followed by 11% for Congress.
